When You’re Running On ‘E’

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

WHEN YOU’RE RUNNING ON ‘E’
Devotional by: Elijah Bell

I don’t know about you, but with the rising gas prices, it becomes more and more painful to fill up the car, meaning we end up riding it closer and closer to the ‘E’ before we eventually head to the gas station.

Our souls have a spiritual gas tank that needs to be refilled. Jesus understood this. After spending a long and exhausting day ministering to multitudes, He had to get away to refuel:

“And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone” (Matthew 14:23).

After a very long day of ministry, Jesus simply had to get away and spend time in prayer with His Father. Our lives are hectic, and we sometimes feel as if we can’t get away from things. When our tanks are empty, do we have the wisdom to take a break and refill them? And do we see the need to refuel our souls with prayer? Jesus did.

Don’t be like me and let your gas tank get to ‘E’ before you do something about it. Take time daily to pray and refuel your soul. Why not start right now? Go to God in prayer this moment, and just talk to God, and pray for the people listed in this newsletter, and for the success of God’s mission through us.

News

  • Starting In May, We Are Revitalizing Our Sunday Evening Activities
Our Sunday evening services will look a little different going forward, with an intentional focus on building relationships with each other. They will include: Study Group Sundays, Singing Sundays, Small Group Sundays, Traditional Sunday Evenings. To see a complete calendar of events, including descriptions of our new Sunday evening activities, please visit: www.hollyhillcoc.org/events

  • Volunteers Needed For In-Home Small Group Sundays
We need people to volunteer to host or facilitate one of the in-home small groups, which will be taking place as part of our revitalized Sunday evening activities. It would be once a month. To host, you only need to open up your home for a group of about 8-12 people. If you can facilitate a study, that means you’ll be the one showing the devotional video provided to you by one of the ministers, and helping to guide the discussion using the discussion questions provided.
Please contact Nick Gill if you are able to help with either or both of these.

Bible Class Review

A summary of what we’ve been learning about in our adult Bible classes.

Sunday Morning Class (10am):

Current Class: Making Disciples the Jesus Way. We are currently talking about principles for ministering to people who have yet responded to Jesus’ challenge to “come and see.” These are people who may very well come to Jesus, but they need a prepared Jesus follower to enter into their life relationally. We are discussing how we can be those prepared Jesus followers.

Wednesday Evening Class (6:30pm):

Current Class: I and We: Practical Steps In Living Out Our Vision And Mission. In the class last night, we talked about how Jesus never disregarded people on the margins of society. The church is made up of, and for, the people who are marginalized by the world. This is another example of things we’re being encouraged to do in this class that help us live our vision and mission together as a church family.
