Are You The Salt Of The Earth?

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

ARE YOU THE SALT OF THE EARTH?
Devotional by: Elijah Bell

Jesus said in Matthew 5:13 that, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”

So, we’re the salt of the earth, but do we act like salt?

Salt provides good flavor

Colossians 4:5-6: 5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Christians need to contribute to the goodness in the world. We need to be spreading kindness and gentleness like Jesus. We need to make the world less bitter and more flavorful.

Salt helps to preserve

John 17:20 (ESV) — 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word”

Christians are doing the work of Jesus here on earth, and helping lead people to Christ, and thus helping preserve the spiritual life of others. That cannot happen without Jesus’ followers going out into the world and helping to lead others to the preserving power of Jesus’ blood.

Salt reminds of wounds

2 Timothy 4:2–3 (ESV) — 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

True Christianity needs to remind the world of their spiritual wounds, and how they are healed in a relationship with Jesus. We do not point out other’s sin for any other reason than to lovingly help them to see where healing can truly be found— in Christ!

Conclusion

So, are you being the salt of the world this week? Are you providing the flavor in a bitter world? Are you helping to preserve the spiritual lives of others in a relationship with Jesus? Are you, by your example and teaching, reminding the world of their sin in order to lead them to knowing Jesus?

Jesus said that a Christian who is not acting like salt is of no use to Him, and is good for nothing expect to be thrown out and trampled under foot. Don’t be salt that has lost its flavor. Today, be the salt of the earth!

Bible Class Review

A summary of what we’ve been learning about in our adult Bible classes.

Sunday Morning Class (10am):

Current Class: Making Disciples the Jesus Way. We are currently talking about principles for ministering to people who have yet responded to Jesus’ challenge to “come and see.” These are people who may very well come to Jesus, but they need a prepared Jesus follower to enter into their life relationally. We are discussing how we can be those prepared Jesus followers.

Wednesday Evening Class (6:30pm):

Current Class: I and We: Practical Steps In Living Out Our Vision And Mission. The class is designed to help us embody our mission as a church. Part of our vision is to be where “People Love.” In last night’s class, we talked about how nothing is louder than love. People should be hearing our love for them LOUD and CLEAR, especially our fellow church members!
