A Worthy Dash

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

A Worthy Dash
Devotional by: Tom Roach

Between the birth date and date of death on many tombstones is a small dash. This should be the most important part for us. Paul challenges the Christians in Philippi to let their manner of life “be worthy of the gospel of Christ.” There are 22 verses in Proverbs that challenge us to “walk” with integrity, upright, or a similar appeal.

We tend to over complicate our lives allowing ourselves to be pulled in too many directions. To streamline, we must first determine what our goals are. If you are reading this, I assume your top tier goal is to get to Heaven and for those dearest to you to be there as well. That being the case we must then build all our plans to support that goal.

Plans are nothing until we apply resources to accomplish our stated goals. Our most limited resource is our time; we exchange it for the money we earn therefore we should attribute the same value to each of them. You can waste, spend, or invest each of them. With investing, you expect to accrue additional value.

The most important investment you can make is in other people: your family, your church family, and your friends. Do things with them and for them so you and they become better Christians and workers in the Kingdom. Romans 15:1-2 says the stronger have an obligation to bear the failings of the weak not to please ourselves but to build them up. If we consistently do these things, it’s likely will have a worthy dash.

Missions

These are the challenges that the congregation is actively working on this month.

Our Missions For October

  • Equip — Invite a church member or family to do something with you outside of the worship assembly.

  • Teach — Share something with your accountability person (or another church member) that stood out to you from a recent Bible study.

  • Serve — Ask a deacon, ministry leader, elder, or minister how you can help, and serve in the way they direct you.

*Be on the lookout for weekly training videos on our Facebook and YouTube pages, published each Sunday, to help you complete the challenges.

*As you complete each challenge, drop one of the pom-pom balls into the corresponding jar at the Mission Control Center in the lobby so we can see how many people are completing each challenge. One completion per person, per challenge, per month.
