Blindspots
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)
Christian Blindspots Devotional by: Tom Roach
In 1955, two psychologists (Luft and Ingham) developed the JOHARI Window. The design is a simple window with four panels, each representing a different combination of known or unknown and self or others. I want to focus on the upper right quadrant which is commonly referred to as the Blind spot.
A blind spot is some bit of knowledge about us that others have but is unknown to us. Blind spots come in two varieties, either positive or negative. A positive blind spot is a situation where others have a better rating for you than you have for yourself. A negative blind spot is the opposite; you rate yourself better than others rate you. People and organizations can have blind spots. The problem with blind spots is since you don’t know about them, you can’t fix them. Ignorance is not bliss.
A recent Barna survey of GEN Z Christian teenagers revealed that 50 percent believe “letting your actions speak, rather than using words to explain your faith” is an act of evangelism. Yet according to another Barna survey, only 35 percent of adult report having given their time to an organization (not just churches) in the last three months. These numbers, like many other surveys, indicate that religious activities, participation with churches, and volunteerism is on the decline in the United States. In other words, The fields are white for the harvest (John 4:35). Answer the following questions.
Do my actions speak for my faith or is it my only words (James 2:18-23)? James tells us that works are required for our faith to be active. He cautions us that the demons believe.
Have I volunteered my time to support the activities set forth by the elders at Holly Hill?
Other than Sunday morning, how much time do I commit to the activities conducted by and for the congregation?
What have I done on my own to seize an opportunity about Christ that presented itself?
What have I done on my own to create an opportunity for Christ?
If everyone worked as hard as I do, would the congregation be better or worse off?
Will God’s plan be successful in spite of me or at least in part because of me?
The New Testament is our call to action. BE the disciples that each of us is called to be.

Holly Hill’s Children’s Bible Class Ministry Needs Your Help With Materials
We are requesting your help with our new Spiritual Heritage Bible Class curriculum for K-6.
The teachers are tasked to create a God-made wall. This wall is a focal point in the classroom and will provide an opportunity to speak of the magnificence and wisdom of God. To ensure successful implementation of the program in our K-6 classes, the Bible class teachers need photos of any kind showing the greatness of God. These photos could be any type including nature, scenery, seasons, animals, people, etc. Use your imagination!
Also included in the curriculum are specific lessons directed at certain topics. We need photos of these items also.
God Planned Animal Houses
God Made Desert Animals That Can Survive On Little Water
God Made Camels, Snakes, Great Eyes, Protective Coverings, Beautiful Animals, Mosquitoes, Giraffes, Animal Hands (Claws, Wings, Paws), Big Cats
God Made Animal Hides, Perfect Animals (even though they look silly to us), Porpoises, Animal Ears, Micro-Organisms, Animal Cooperation
Great sources for these needed photos are magazines, outdated calendars, and old books. Size of the photo does not matter. Our first Sunday class with the new curriculum will be March 5th. We will be accepting and using these photos throughout the next 26 weeks. Please turn them in as you find them.
All we ask is that you cut out the photos and place them in the box located in the foyer labeled, Spiritual Heritage. Let's support these dedicated teachers and help ensure our Holly Hill kids know that our God is very great!
