The Greatest King

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

The Greatest King Devotional by: Kurt Montooth

Hey Holly Hill,

I am thrilled about Vacation Bible School this year. We are in the final stages of VBS planning, and if you haven't signed up to work, please do so! This year, we will explore the theme of Jesus as the Greatest King. Join us as we embark on a journey to discover the transformative power of Jesus' reign, which transcends time, challenges our perspectives, and offers abundant life.

On Sunday, we will delve into the birth of Jesus, contrasting it with the birth of earthly royalty. His humble arrival, wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger, exemplifies the heart of a servant king. Luke 2:7 reminds us that Jesus came to serve, not to be served. This sets Him apart from earthly kings who are served by their subjects.

The theme of Jesus' servant nature continues on Monday night as we explore our second lesson. We will focus on the healing of two blind men who recognized Him as King. Jesus did not flaunt His status as the "Son of David" for wealth, privilege, or a palace. Instead, He used His authority to serve and help others. Jesus utilized His power and privilege for the betterment of others, not Himself.

Tuesday will take us on a profound journey as we reflect on Jesus' sacrificial death. We will delve into the arrest, trial, crucifixion, and burial of Jesus, drawing a striking contrast between the deaths of earthly kings and the sacrificial death of our King Jesus. While earthly kings expect their subjects to die for them, Jesus died for His subjects. The focus scripture from John 19:6 will echo in our hearts, reminding us of the immense love displayed on the cross.

Wednesday brings us the glorious message of the resurrection and the promise of Jesus' second coming. The empty tomb serves as a powerful symbol of victory over sin and death, emphasizing that Jesus is not a king bound by mortality. Our focus scripture, Matthew 28:6, proclaims the truth of Jesus' resurrection, while Matthew 24:30-31 paints a vivid picture of His second coming in power and glory.

Throughout this remarkable journey, we will witness the unique and unparalleled kingship of Jesus Christ. He is a different kind of king, characterized by humility, compassion, sacrifice, and the promise of eternal life when His Kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven. Our desire is for you to encounter Jesus in a deeply personal and transformative way, discovering the true joy and peace that comes from surrendering to His reign.

Join us at Vacation Bible School as we celebrate and proclaim the reign of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the greatest King of all.

Kurt

  • Holly Hill’s Children’s Bible Class Ministry Needs Your Help With Materials

We are requesting your help with our new Spiritual Heritage Bible Class curriculum for K-6.

The teachers are tasked to create a God-made wall. This wall is a focal point in the classroom and will provide an opportunity to speak of the magnificence and wisdom of God. To ensure successful implementation of the program in our K-6 classes, the Bible class teachers need photos of any kind showing the greatness of God. These photos could be any type including nature, scenery, seasons, animals, people, etc. Use your imagination!

Also included in the curriculum are specific lessons directed at certain topics. We need photos of these items also.

    • God Planned Animal Houses

    • God Made Desert Animals That Can Survive On Little Water

    • God Made Camels, Snakes, Great Eyes, Protective Coverings, Beautiful Animals, Mosquitoes, Giraffes, Animal Hands (Claws, Wings, Paws), Big Cats

    • God Made Animal Hides, Perfect Animals (even though they look silly to us), Porpoises, Animal Ears, Micro-Organisms, Animal Cooperation

Great sources for these needed photos are magazines, outdated calendars, and old books. Size of the photo does not matter. Our first Sunday class with the new curriculum will be March 5th. We will be accepting and using these photos throughout the next 26 weeks. Please turn them in as you find them.

All we ask is that you cut out the photos and place them in the box located in the foyer labeled, Spiritual Heritage. Let's support these dedicated teachers and help ensure our Holly Hill kids know that our God is very great!
