Family

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

Family
Devotional by: Tom Roach

Who do you consider family? Does your circle only include your spouse, siblings, parents, children, and grandchildren? Does it include your cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces? Does your family extend beyond biology or law? What are you willing to do for family?

Modern research by the Institute for Family Studies (IFstudies.org, 2021) confirms what Christians have known for millennia, children grow and prosper best when raised by an in-tact two parent family. Children are more likely to avoid poverty and prison and have higher educational achievement. Unfortunately, we often get our priorities out of order and try to do things in our own way and in our own time. There are multiple verses that provide guidance for us.

Proverbs 22:6 tells us to, “train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”.

Proverbs 13:22 says, “a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children….”

Proverbs 14:1 says, “the wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.”

In the Virtuous Woman section of Proverbs 31, verses 27-28 state that, “She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

And finally, Ephesians 6:4 cautions fathers to, “not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Often, what we are willing to do for family is a matter of our relational position and the strength of the relationship. We also seemingly forget that our Church family matters almost as much as our family. I’d like to encourage you to do a few things in your life, to help create new or strengthen existing relationships.

Forgive those who have damaged relationships with you in the past (Matthew 6:12-15 & 18:21- 35). When we grant forgiveness, especially if they don’t ask, it’s about our heart and not theirs.

Create an environment that promotes strengthening existing relationships, which make you a better person and servant. Be honest without being rude or brutal (Psalms 141:4-5. Proverbs 18:24 & 27:17).

Look for opportunities to create new relationships with people who share your love of truth. Be blest by others and be a blessing to others (James 3:13-18).

Be a blessing to your family in all that you do.

Missions

These are the challenges that the congregation is actively working on this month.

Our Missions For September

  • Equip — Equip another church member with an opportunity to love and serve by asking them for prayers over something in your life.

  • Teach — Share God’s love with the world by telling someone else about how God has loved you.

  • Serve — Pray to God to open your eyes to an opportunity to serve others, and follow through when you see it.

News

This section is for any special announcements that are not upcoming events or prayer requests.

  • Children’s Bible Class Announcement

We are now FULLY staffed and have EVERY class covered! Thank you to all of the folks who’ve jumped right in with both feet, making sure our kids have everything they need to learn God’s Word. I greatly appreciate all of your help!

  • Honduras Men's Mission Trip Announcement

    SAVE THE DATE: February 16th - February 23rd, 2024.

    Thank you,

    Robert Roach

  • Message From Steve Small

I need your help. I’m being released Friday to go home. But there’s a hang up. Medicare will cover therapy expenses, such as physical and occupational therapy, but it will not cover personal needs. I have called six companies about helping with personal needs and the cost for four consecutive hours a day (the minimum required) is $129. If I reduce the hours the price per hour goes up. Do you know of anyone who might be willing to come take care of me at a less expensive price? Hopefully, continued therapy will help me be able to stand with my walker. Your continued prayers are appreciated.

  • Welcome Desk Volunteers Needed

For various reasons, 5 helpers have dropped out in the past few months. We would like to have at least that many or more to volunteer to help out. If you would like to help out, please call or text Tom Owens (502-545-5296). Thanks!

  • Library Announcement

The library is needing a lot of work. Please no donations until further notice. Study and reading is still important. Technology has taken those ideals over. But the library will come back to being useful after some consideration & clean up.

    Thank you,

    Jeannie Lebeau
