Be On The Alert

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

Be On The Alert
Devotional by: Elijah Bell

In the section of scripture about the armor of God, part of the way we fight the spiritual battles happening against Satan and his army is by praying for each other. Did you know that praying for each other is part of the armor of God? Notice what Ephesians 6:18 says:

Ephesians 6:18 (ESV) — "praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints"

In the battle we are fighting, we should not be going it alone. We need to have the prayerful support of our brothers and sisters, and we need to be providing the same for them. Let’s note 3 things about how we can help our brothers and sisters in Christ as they fight their spiritual battles by praying for them.

First, we need to be people of prayer to begin with. Notice we are to be praying at "all times in the Spirit". Are we people of prayer? Are we praying in the Spirit continually? If not, how can we provide the support that our brothers and sisters need?

Second, we must be on the alert for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Notice we’re told to “keep alert with all perseverance.” How can we know how to pray for each other if we don’t keep alert to the struggles and dangers at hand? Do we notice and care what our brothers and sisters are going through, and do we continually look for ways we can pray for them?

Third, we are to make supplication for ALL the saints. Often, we pray for ourselves and our own struggles, but we forget to pray for others with the same fervency.

This month, one of the Mission Control challenges is to choose someone specific from the congregation and pray for them for the rest of the month, and tell them what you’ve been praying about for them. Let’s be on the alert! Let’s keep an eye out for each other! Let’s make supplications for each other as we fight the spiritual war! This month, and going forward, remember to BE ON THE ALERT!

Missions

These are the challenges that the congregation is actively working on this month.

Our Missions For February

  • Equip — Pick a person in the church to pray for each day for the rest of the month and show that you love them by sharing with them what you’re specifically praying about for them.

Kids’ Challenge — With your parents’ help, choose someone that needs prayers, and pray about them each night before bed.

  • Teach — Share with a non-Christian something God has done to show His love for you.

Kids’ Challenge — Write down all the things God has done for you to show He loves you. How many can you think of?

  • Serve — Show love by sacrificing your time, talent, or treasure for someone in need.

Kids’ Challenge — What is something you are good at that you could do to help someone else? Do that this month.

*Be on the lookout for weekly training videos on our Facebook and YouTube pages, published each Sunday, to help you complete the challenges.

*As you complete each challenge, drop one of the pom-pom balls into the corresponding jar at the Mission Control Center in the lobby so we can see how many people are completing each challenge. One completion per person, per challenge, per month.
