Fear Not

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

Dear Holly Hill Family,

We are coming to the congregation today as men of the church with a servant’s heart. We are looking to God for His will to be known and to be done. With the elders stepping away from service the deacons must step away also. In addition, it’s with a heavy heart that we announce Nick Gill will be stepping away from his duties at Holly Hill. We want to thank both Nick & Carly immensely for all the Kingdom work they’ve done over the years here at Holly Hill, in our community, and we wish their family well.

This begs the question how will the work of the church be done?

The now former deacons and church trustees have met to make immediate plans on how to proceed with the day to day activities of the church.

The men standing before you are willing servants and will serve this congregation in various roles to efficiently conduct the worship and activities of Holly Hill Church of Christ.

Moving forward the church will move to a men’s leadership team. This team will hold regular business meetings to discuss matters of the church. All male members of the church are encouraged to attend these meetings. The next meeting will be Saturday, August 3rd at 8 AM downstairs in the fellowship hall.

Our hope and prayer is for this to be only temporary. It is our desire to have a biblically organized congregation with elders and deacons. We all need to be in prayer and reflection on where we are as a congregation and how we can best follow God’s will. We ask that each of you be reading, reflecting, and praying about the New Testament Scriptures pertaining to elders and deacons (listed below).

Please reach out to any of the following men or trustees with your questions or concerns (Scott Trent, Robert Roach, David Jones, Mike Mayes, Matthew Woodyard, Brad Gregory, Brad Proctor, & Joue Manglicmot) (Trustees: Tom Owens, Richard Dailey, Lonnie Trent, Clark Galloway, & Phil Wilkins).

We covet your prayers for this team and for our congregation as we move forward with growing the Lord’s Kingdom at Holly Hill.

  • 1 Timothy 3:1-13 ESV

    (1) The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. (2) Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, (3) not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (4) He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, (5) for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? (6) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. (7) Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. (8) Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. (9) They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. (10) And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. (11) Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. (12) Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. (13) For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

  • Acts 6:1-6 ESV

    (1) Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. (2) And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. (3) Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. (4) But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” (5) And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. (6) These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.

  • Titus 1:5-16 ESV

    (5) This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— (6) if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. (7) For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, (8) but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. (9) He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. (10) For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. (11) They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. (12) One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” (13) This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, (14) not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. (15) To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. (16) They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

  • Hebrews 13:17 ESV

    (17) Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

  • 1 Peter 5:1-10 ESV

    (1) So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: (2) shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; (3) not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (4) And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (5) Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (6) Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, (7) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (8) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (9) Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. (10) And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

  • Update On Emmie Forrest

Emmie had such a great weekend! She is perking up so much and making big improvements every single day. We are just so grateful for even the tiniest wins.

Emmie got to take some wagon rides out of the room this weekend and absolutely loved it! We got to take her outside, and we asked her if she was having fun and she gave us a big thumbs up 👍🏼!! And as Logan shared yesterday, she is showing us her love too🤟♥️ and giving us big hugs and won’t let go!!

This week we had plans to put in the permanent shunt, but they got changed for a couple different reasons. One reason being that we are going to take her to surgery to have a G-tube placed in her stomach tomorrow, and get the feeding tube (NJ) out of her nose. The NJ tube has been bothering her, making her throw up and gag quite a bit. So this switch will hopefully allow her to be able to make more and more improvements, and be ready to try and eat by mouth soon! Also the G-tube is not a permanent thing. We will keep it in as long as needs it, and eventually she can have it reversed and taken out!

She also has a little wound on the back of her neck/head from wearing the c-collar for so long, tomorrow while she’s in surgery they are going to also debride the spot and close it up. Where the wound is located is right in the path for part of the shunt to travel, so that’s the other reason we had to put that surgery on hold. Once these two things are done tomorrow, we have to wait probably 2 weeks to heal.

After those things heal, I think the ultimate goal is to have one big surgery all at once: place the shunt, do reconstruction and place the bone flap back. We don’t have confirmation of this, but the dr has mentioned it a few times so our prayer is that is what will happen! The less number of surgeries she has the better, so if we can do everything at one time, and in just a couple of weeks, that would be ideal!!

Please be in prayer with us this week:

    • G-tube surgery tomorrow and wound debridement all goes successfully. As well as that she tolerates everything well, and will improve much more after.

    • Also please be in prayer over the big surgery in the future. That we can do it all at one time and get it over with!

    • As always, please pray over all of our patience and peace through this process in the waiting time in between.

✨Ems has been giving us the sweetest, biggest hugs- and using both arms!! Man we love this beautiful girl✨
