As For Me & My House…

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

As For Me & My House… Devotional by: Todd Best

There are a lot of things in this world that can be very distracting. You have to be very focused on what you are doing at all times or things can go sideways very easily!

I find it tough some days at my job. I work in a factory with all kinds of different people every day. Like anyone else, I have my good days and I have my bad days. Thankfully, I seem to have more good days than bad.  But every once in a while, you can have one of those Murphy’s Law days where it seems like everything that can go wrong, does go wrong! How you handle those days and events that come up are what shows people your true self. People see our character when things are challenging, not when things are easy.

I like the example we have in the book of Joshua. Joshua lived his life listening to the Lord and doing what He told him to do. In the first chapter, He tells Joshua to take His people to the land that He had promised them. He tells him in verses 4-6 of the first chapter, ”No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you, I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.”

Later in the book of Joshua chapter 6, we read the story of the fall of Jericho and how God wanted his people to overcome the great wall that surrounded the city. They were given explicit instructions on what to do to make the great wall come down. With Joshua’s leadership and the power of the Lord the wall fell and great was its fall!

We have this example from Joshua that we can look to, but there are many other great men and examples in the Bible for anything that can come up in our life. All we have to do is read our Bibles and pray for the Lords help and guidance with whatever is troubling us. Especially valuable, we have our church family to rely on when we need a helping hand or a word of encouragement.

One of my favorite verses in the Old Testament is Joshua 24:15, “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” No matter what happens, making this commitment every day will bear the fruit of righteousness in your life.

Missions

These are the challenges that the congregation is actively working on this month.

Our Missions For April

  • Equip — Equip another disciple to remain faithful by encouraging someone to attend with you, or get involved with, a church activity or event.

Kids’ Challenge — Ask your parents how you can get involved at church, and ask for their help so you can make a difference.

  • Teach — Read Psalm 27 for as many days as you can this month, and each day, write down one thing you noticed either about God’s faithfulness towards us, or our loyalty to Him. Share your observations with someone.

Kids’ Challenge — Read Psalm 27 with your parents and ask them to help you understand what it means for you to seek God.

  • Serve — Look for a way to demonstrate faithfulness to God by helping someone, or getting involved, in a way that requires a sacrifice on your part.

Kids’ Challenge — Think of something that you like to do, and next time, sacrifice by by spending that time doing something kind for someone else.

*Be on the lookout for weekly training videos on our Facebook and YouTube pages, published each Sunday, to help you complete the challenges.

*As you complete each challenge, drop one of the pom-pom balls into the corresponding jar at the Mission Control Center in the lobby so we can see how many people are completing each challenge. One completion per person, per challenge, per month.

  • Holly Hill’s Children’s Bible Class Ministry Needs Your Help With Materials

We are requesting your help with the launch of our new Spiritual Heritage Bible Class curriculum for K-6.

The teachers are tasked to create a God-made wall. This wall is a focal point in the classroom and will provide an opportunity to speak of the magnificence and wisdom of God. To ensure successful implementation of the program in our K-6 classes, the Bible class teachers need photos of any kind showing the greatness of God. These photos could be any type including nature, scenery, seasons, animals, people, etc. Use your imagination!

Also included in the curriculum are specific lessons directed at certain topics. We need photos of these items also.

    • God Planned Animal Houses

    • God Made Desert Animals That Can Survive On Little Water

    • God Made Camels, Snakes, Great Eyes, Protective Coverings, Beautiful Animals, Mosquitoes, Giraffes, Animal Hands (Claws, Wings, Paws), Big Cats

    • God Made Animal Hides, Perfect Animals (even though they look silly to us), Porpoises, Animal Ears, Micro-Organisms, Animal Cooperation

Great sources for these needed photos are magazines, outdated calendars, and old books. Size of the photo does not matter. Our first Sunday class with the new curriculum will be March 5th. We will be accepting and using these photos throughout the next 26 weeks. Please turn them in as you find them.

All we ask is that you cut out the photos and place them in the box located in the foyer labeled, Spiritual Heritage. Let's support these dedicated teachers and help ensure our Holly Hill kids know that our God is very great!
