Walls Torn Down

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)

Mini Devotional

A mini message to take with you this week to help you in your devotion to God.

Walls Torn Down Devotional By: Robert Roach

This world has many walls. Some are used for good; others are used for evil. Some are physical and yet others are contained within our own hearts. We build walls within ourselves to keep others out, but more commonly, the walls within our hearts are built to keep someone in. These are the walls of sin, and contained within their borders, Satan lurks, silently controlling our lives. Satan himself has no power to build these walls but has enlisted help in their construction; this help he often conveniently finds coming from you and from me. We willingly submit to the hard labor of building these stones up one by one until we have a fortress for Satan that cannot be shaken by anyone but ourselves. But after investing so much of our time and effort in building the walls, we often choose to let them stand, simultaneously allowing Satan the continual control of our lives from deep within the fortress of sin.

As the Israelites entered the Promised Land, they faced their own fortress of evil, Jericho, providing protection for the people of the Land which God had commanded them to eliminate. Jericho stood strong, seemingly impenetrable to the Israelite forces. But God knew that this wall was standing between them and freedom in the Land, and thus He presented them with a plan on how they would go about tearing down the walls of the city. God has given us a plan on how to tear down the walls of sin in our lives as well. If we turn our backs on His plan, can we expect that the walls will fall? If the Israelites had only walked around the city six times on the final day do you suppose the walls would have fallen? Of course not! Not only did God provide a beautiful plan for them to follow, He promised total success to the Israelites if they obeyed His commands. In Joshua 6:5, God promised the destruction of the walls if they obeyed His commands just as He had given them.

God is willing and able to tear down the walls of sin in our lives if we allow His plan to be the marching orders for our lives. We must realize that we have helped Satan build up walls of sin in our lives, but that God has commanded us to tear down those walls. But He does not leave us helpless; He provides help in the destruction of the walls of sin within our souls. Do we constantly seek total reliance on God’s plan to tear down the walls? If so, He will help us destroy the walls of sin just as He destroyed the walls of Jericho for the Israelites.

God’s plan is simple. Jesus came to help us destroy the walls of sin, and find peace and rest for our souls. For all who believe in Jesus, and obey His commands, the walls of sin will come crumbling down.

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” — John 10:9-10

Logan & Emmie Forrest (From Team Emmie Facebook page)

Being in the Army, I’ve met some incredibly tough people, but none compare to this little girl. At just 3 years old, she has faced unimaginable challenges and overcome them with such strength. Not many people can say they fell 30 feet and survived. She will break all the odds!

I couldn’t be more proud of her progress and am truly excited for what lies ahead in her rehab journey. I have the utmost confidence that she will make a remarkable recovery. We have that confidence and hope because we serve a big God who is truly a miracle maker.

A special thank you to East Tennessee Children's Hospital for everything they’ve done for Emmie. They will always hold a special place in our hearts and be a part of our family.

And…thank you to our huge #TeamEmmie community! You all are amazing. 🤟🙏🙌

Emmie said ✌🏼 out Knoxville- Kentucky we’re coming for you!! 🩷

  • An Update On Emmie

    Tuesday Sept 10

We made it to Frazier safe and sound around 2pm yesterday! We’ve got a nice, big room, and had a day full of therapy evals!

They are saying they expect us to be here about 3 weeks, but that can change depending on how good she’s doing or if they think she might benefit with more time. It will be cutting it close to her birthday!! So we might be celebrating her big 4th birthday here at Rehab on OCT 1st, but whatever we’ve got to do for her we will!!

We’ll be doing therapies most of the day, but visitors are allowed when we aren’t in therapy. If you would like to visit PLEASE coordinate with me prior to coming! Evenings and weekends might be the best. Also know we will be home soon, and would love visitors there even better!

Please pray with us as we begin this next chapter! Pray that she is able to gain even more of herself back over the next few weeks, especially speech and eating!

  • Men’s Willingness To Serve Survey

We would like to encourage the men of the congregation to take 5 minutes and complete the survey linked below, to let us know who’s willing to serve and in what areas of ministry.

We’ve emailed many of you individually earlier this week, sending out a link to the survey that could be completed electronically. We’ve received word back that some of the emails may have gone to your spam folders. If you check your inbox or spam folder, you can still complete the survey and submit it back electronically. If you’ve already completed the survey and submitted it back to me, you DO NOT have to submit it again.

The link copied below will need to be printed and then submitted back to the church email account (office@hollyhillcoc.org) or just given back to Matthew Woodyard. If you’re unable to print, please let us know and Matthew will make sure you receive a paper copy.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and most importantly, thank you for your service to God’s church!
