At Your Service
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, ESV)
Dear Holly Hill Family,
We came before the congregation at the end of July, as men of the church with a servant’s heart. In that moment and in each moment since, we’ve looked to God for His will to be know and to be done. Our congregation has seen a great deal of change, but we thankfully serve an eternal God who does not!
In order to efficiently conduct worship and to serve the needs of the congregation, the men’s leadership team decided upon the following committees and committee leaders. We covet your prayers for these men and for our congregation as we move forward with growing the Lord’s Kingdom at Holly Hill. Please contact any of these men with any questions you may have.

The men of Holly Hill will continue to hold regular business meetings to discuss matters of the church. The next men’s business meeting will be Sunday, September 8th at 4:30 PM downstairs in the fellowship hall. All male members of the church are encouraged to attend these meetings. We would also like to encourage the men to complete a “Willingness to Serve” survey and let us know where you wish to serve our congregation. We’ve sent copies of the survey to many of your email accounts, so check your inboxes and spam folders. If you’re a male member of Holly Hill and you did not receive a survey via email, please contact Matthew Woodyard and he will provide you with a paper copy.
Our hope and prayer is for this to be only temporary. It is our desire to have a biblically organized congregation with elders and deacons. We ask that each of you be reading, reflecting, and praying about the New Testament Scriptures pertaining to elders and deacons (listed below).
1 Timothy 3:1-13 ESV
(1) The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. (2) Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, (3) not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (4) He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, (5) for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? (6) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. (7) Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. (8) Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. (9) They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. (10) And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. (11) Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. (12) Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. (13) For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Acts 6:1-6 ESV
(1) Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. (2) And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. (3) Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. (4) But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” (5) And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. (6) These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.
Titus 1:5-16 ESV
(5) This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— (6) if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. (7) For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, (8) but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. (9) He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. (10) For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. (11) They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. (12) One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” (13) This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, (14) not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. (15) To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. (16) They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
Hebrews 13:17 ESV
(17) Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
1 Peter 5:1-10 ESV
(1) So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: (2) shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; (3) not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (4) And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (5) Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (6) Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, (7) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (8) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (9) Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. (10) And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
An Update On Emmie
Wednesday, Aug 28th (photo pictured above)
After 55 days, we officially graduated from PICU and made it to the floor yesterday!! Throughout our PICU stay we got to work on a ceiling tile to leave our mark in room 501 🩷
Tuesday, Aug 27th
Yesterday the neuro team come in and took some more fluid off Emmie’s head to culture and see what is going on. Unfortunately it came back this morning with the same result: light growth of the same bacteria. It is concerning for a couple of reasons: 1. we’ve been on the correct antibiotics (ABX) for 10 days now and it is still showing up and 2. Because it is still growing, does this mean that the actual bone is infected that they just put back in.
The current plan for us right now is to wait another week, stay on these ABX and possibly start some new ones to just hit it as hard as we can, then next Wednesday or Thursday they will come back to get more fluid off and re-test. So we will PRAY WITH ALL OUR MIGHT that this bacteria will DIE and not come back or show up again!! If for some reason it still grows next week, then she will have to go back in for yet another surgery to treat the bone flap-but I am unsure at this time what the plan would be for that. I pray that we don’t have to find out!
The GOOD news despite all of this is that Emmie is not showing any signs of infection. She has not been having any fevers at all, her labs all remain normal and her infection markers (that were originally high) have all come down significantly. Clinically she looks and is doing great! So we praise God for that.
She will potentially have to go home on ABX which is fine, but the rehab center agreed today that they will take her still if she has to come on them. That was a huge relief for me, because they originally said they wouldn’t!
Saving the best news for last: we finally get to move out of the ICU today and down to a regular floor! This is such a huge step as Emmie doesn’t have to be as continuously monitored anymore and we will have much more privacy- and our own bathroom/shower!!😂 Another praise for a step forward, in what seems to be continuous steps back.
So over the next week, as you think about our family and in your prayers, please specifically pray over these things with us:
The infection will completely disappear and not show up on ANYmore cultures. That we will NOT need to put Emmie through any more surgeries. That the current treatment of antibiotics will be all that she needs to clear this infection and no other actions will need to be taken!
Pray over our transition to the floor today as we will be meeting all new nurses, drs, and staff (thankfully the same therapy teams will follow us). But we pray for a smooth transition, and are thankful to finally get to move.
Please pray over our little family as this just means more time apart from each other. I hate missing out on Parker’s school time and baseball. I pray for the time we get to all be together again will be sooner rather than later.
Monday, Aug 26th
💌📬We got our PO Box set up this week, so I want to share that address with all of you!! We have received so many sweet cards and packages, and we just cannot thank everyone enough for the thoughtfulness that goes into them all. We thought the PO Box would be an easier way to give one address instead of having to change it every time we move somewhere else!
Address: PO Box 87, Versailles, KY 40483.
Mail can be addressed to any of us Logan, Taylor, Parker, or Emerson (Emmie).

An Update On Polly Deaton
Polly Deaton has recently been moved to an assisted living facility in Shelbyville, KY, and we wanted to make sure the congregation had her updated contact info. For security reasons, the facility will not give out any resident’s room number, but if you’d like to send a card, they’ll make sure Polly receives it. As for visiting, visiting hours are open anytime, except for mealtimes, but please call ahead. The facility will need to make certain arrangements before visits, so you must call before showing up.
Polly’s been a member of this congregation since the Boone Plaza days. I met her a long time ago, when the congregations of Boone Plaza and Louisville Rd. shared a VBS. We worked together as a team teaching a class. Polly wrote a book, “A Pocket Full of Frogs,” which was a collection of short stories about her granddaughter, Tara. There’s a copy in our church library. Polly loves her family and her cats, of which she has several. Please pray for this sweet lady and her girls.
